How do you go about getting your website up and running?

  1. Figure out what your website is supposed to do.  Sounds obvious, but you would be surprised at the number of folks who really don't know.  Is the website to promote a particular business, organization or church.  Is the site going to need to collect money directly over the web.  There are many ways of doing this, and we can show you a couple of good ways of handling this without much up front costs.
  2. Do your Homework.  If this is a business website, do some internet searching for whatever it is you hope to market, and see what others are doing.  Check several of the common search engines such as YAHOO, GOOGLE, or ALTA-VISTA. See what others are doing, and think about what you can do to stand out in a crowd.  Remember, the more unique your products are, the smaller the competition to have to fight.  If you're not able or willing to compete with what the majority of other companies are providing, then maybe an e-commerce website is not for you.  You may want to stick with a site that your direct customer base can go to for more information about your company and products.
  3. Start thinking about a website name.  Your website must have a unique name that no one else is using.  For example: www.billtbyhand.com is our website and on one else can use that name unless we decide to stop paying for it's use.

  4. Get your material together.  Get together photos, descriptions, details and anything else that you want put on your website.  Think about graphics or color schemes that are appropriate for your website.

  16. Web Promotion - How do people find out about your website?  It happens two different ways.  
  • Your own personal promotion.  Be sure to show your website address on all of your Business Cards, Brochures and other advertising types.
  • Search Engine Placement - Just because you have a website doesn't mean that other folks will be able to find it when they look on the Web.  All the websites on all the search engines have been put there by somebody.  You can do this yourself by manually going to www.yahoo.com ,www.google.com , www.lycos.com , www.altavista.com , etc and manually entering your website in the proper category on each site.  This is free, but it will take about 10-15 minutes PER SITE to enter your information.  
    We have an alternate service available in which we will do an automated submission of your website to over 100,000 search engines for only $49.95.
